Today I have for you the second part of the 30 day music challenge – days 11 to 20. If you want to read up on the first part again, this is the way to go. I found today’s 10 songs much harder than the first batch but there are some really nice ones in the mix.
Day 11) A song that you never get tired of
Hard one to start with. Basically every song I really, really like and that becomes a favourite of mine I could fill in here. I did choose something maybe a bit unorthodox – but Kerry Ellis has such an amazing voice and this version of „Defying Gravity“ just beats every other one. (I do like her much better than Idina Menzel. I’m sorry.)

Day 12) A song from your preteen years
I’m not sure if I’m not maybe a bit ashamed of this one. But then again, I’ve come to really like Mel C. Not necessarily because of this song… But anyway: I’ve a very clear memory of a time when me and my brothers listened to one CD day in and day out: It was the Bravo Hits number 49 and boy, did we love it. It’s got some truly horrible songs on it – I remember we played the first two songs of the second disc rather continuously, singing along. Which is why we didn’t listen as much to the song I’m gonna name hear because I was the only one of the four of us who really liked it. But I put it on whenever I got a chance – much better than „Dubi Dam Dam“.
Melanie C: The next best superstar
Day 13) One of your favourite 70’s songs
Come on – one of the best centuries every, music-wise, and I’m only allowed to choose one song? Well then, here’s a band we haven’t had so far:
Supertramp: Breakfast in America

Day 14) A song that you would love played at your wedding
I haven’t yet spent one thought for my wedding. I’m pretty sure that’s still a long way off, especially seeing as there’s no one to be married by me at the moment. Thus, I absolutely can’t think of any song that I would want to be played at my wedding. All I can offer is a love song, a song about love (and a different one from the one on day 26). And no one better to turn to when you need a love song than Paul McCartney.

Day 15) A song that is a cover by another artist
This was easy. There’s one name that springs to my mind when I hear „cover“ and that’s Joe Cocker (who sadly died on my birthday two years ago). And his song/cover I love the most is – coincidentally – another Beatles‘ song – almost, almost better than the original, this one.
Joe Cocker: She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
Day 16) One of your favourite classical songs
This was a difficult decision between two different pieces of classical music. As it says „song“, I ruled out any instrumental classical music and it came down to two pieces which I’ve sung several times in my life so far. I love them both and they both hold a lot of memories. One of them is this one – people who know me might be able to guess which the other one is
Jauchzet, frohlocket (Johann Sebastian Bach, Weihnachtsoratorium)
Day 17) A song that you would sing a duet with on karaoke
I wouldn’t have thought before I started this challenge that Melanie C would feature in this not only once, but twice. I’ve come to love her when she played Mary Magdalene in the arena tour of „Jesus Christ Superstar“ in 2012. Only a few years ago she recorded an album of musical theatre songs and one of them is a duet with Emma Bunton from the show „Chess“. It’s lovely.

Day 18) A song from the year that you were born
I’m not sure 1992 was a very good music year. But it produced a wonderful song by Eric Clapton and he sure has to feature in this challenge.
Eric Clapton: Layla
Day 19) A song that makes you think about life
There were a few songs I thought about putting here. In the end, I decided to choose another one from John Lennon. „Living on borrowed time“ – that certainly makes you think about life, doesn’t it? We all are – so let’s enjoy life as best as we can. (Not sure I’ve ever seen that video before.)

Day 20) A song that has many meanings to you
It’s getting deeper now. I had to think about this one for a while. Most songs I like have a meaning to me. This one has a very special one: It’s basically the first song I ever heard of the band that would become my ultimate favourite, still is and probably always will be. The band that got me into contact with pop music in a way that I actively listened to music, listened closely (in contrast to being surrounded by music from the radio all day but never really listening), wanted to get to know more about the band, about music in general. The band that got me into contact with other music that was older than me. This song (and in exactly this version because different versions were released as single and on the album) was the first Beatles song I heard when me and my brother dug out our parents‘ copy of „1“.
